Carl Michael Bellman (1740–1795)
var en svensk poet, født i Stockholm og døde der. Han er mest kjent for poesisyklusene Fredmans epistlar og Fredmans sånger. Bellman regnes som en av Sveriges nasjonaldiktere og har blitt kalt «Nordens anakreon» for de festlige og livsbejaende elementene i verkene hans. Poesien hans har hatt stor betydning for svensk litteratur og blir noen ganger sammenlignet med William Shakespeare for den engelsktalende verden. Bellmans produksjon var svært omfattende og variert, med dikt, ballader, parodier, skuespill, oversettelser og religiøs poesi. Blant hans mest kjente skikkelser er urmakeren Fredman, musikeren Movitz, korporal Mollberg og prostituerte Ulla Winblad. Han blandet ofte forskjellige stiler og sjangre, der for eksempel en pastoral kunne gå over i fest og erotikk. I marsjen «Babylon» har jeg brukt temaer fra Bellmans sang nr. 41 fra Fredmans sanger «Joachim uti Babylon». Sangen er inspirert av den bibelske fortellingen om Susanna i badet, der figuren Joachim er Susannas ektemann. Bellman bruker den bibelske fortellingen som grunnlag, men gir den en humoristisk og satirisk tone, som
er typisk for stilen hans. Jeg har en fri tilnærming til materialet, men i innledningen, i midtpartiet og i trioen er Bellmans melodier lette å spore. Babylon er den første av tre marsjer, basert på Bellmans sanger.

Kjell Ingebretsen
født i Skien, men siden midten av sekstitallet bosatt i Stockholm, er en fremtredende dirigent, pofessor og musikkadministrator. 1995 ble han invalgt i Kungliga Musikaliska Akademien og var preses der i perioden 2006–2012.
Med røtter i det norske korpsmiljøet startet Ingebretsen sin musikalske karriere som klarinettist i Skien Skolemusikk og senere, under ledelse av sin far, i Skien Ungdomskorps. I studietiden i Oslo studerte han blant annet orgel for Arild Sandvold og komposisjon med Conrad Baden og skrev sine første marsjer 18 år gammel. Deretter fortsatte han studiene ved Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm, med blant annet komposisjon for Karl-Birger Blomdahl og dirigering for prof. Herbert Blomstedt.  I 25 år var Ingebretsen engasjert som kapellmester ved Kungliga Operan i Stockholm, hvor han, i tillegg til å dirigere hele det klassiske opera- og ballettrepertoaret, også sto bak en rekke
kritikerroste urfremføringer. En periode var han også orkestersjef der. 1996 ble han utnevnt til Kunsterisk sjef (Operasjef) ved den da nybygde Göteborgsoperaen, som snart ble regnet som et av de ledende operahusene i Europa. I 2006 ble han Norges første professor i opera ved KHiO i Oslo, en stilling han hadde frem til 2011. Deretter var han frem til 2017 virksom som kunstnerisk leder for masterprogrammet i symfonisk orkesterspill og som professor ved Musikkhøgskolen ved Universitetet i Göteborg. I 2009 ble han tildelt en æresdoktorgrad ved Universitetet i Göteborgs kunstfakultet. Ingebretsen har også vært professor i orkesterdirigering ved Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm. Ingebretsen har hovedsakelig vært aktiv i Sverige, men i løpet av 1970-, 1980- og inn på 1990-tallet var han også en hyppig brukt dirigent i det norske musikklivet, med oppdrag i alle symfoniorkestre, NRK radio og TV og Den Norske Opera.

Carl Michael Bellman (1740–1795)
was a Swedish poet, born in Stockholm and died there. He is best known for the poetry cycles Fredman's Epistlar and Fredman's Songs. Bellman is considered one of Sweden's national poets and has been called "The Anacreon of the North" for the festive and life-affirming elements in his works. His poetry has had a great influence on Swedish literature and is sometimes compared to William Shakespeare for the English-speaking world. Bellman's output was very extensive and varied, with poems, ballads, parodies, plays, translations and religious poetry. Among his most famous characters are the playwright Fredman, the musician Movitz, Corporal Mollberg and the prostitute Ulla Winblad. He often mixed different styles and songs, for example a pastoral could go over into festivity and eroticism. In the march «Babylon» I have used themes from Bellmans song no. 41 from Fredman's song "Joachim from Babylon. The song is inspired by the biblical story of Susanna in the bath, where the figure Joachim is Susanna's husband. Bellman uses the biblical story as the basis but gives it a humorous and satirical tone typical of his style. I have a free attribution to the material, but in the introduction, in the middle movement and in the trio, Bellmans melodies are easy to trace. Babylon is the first of three marches, based on Bellmans tunes.

Kjell Ingebretsen
born in Skien, Norway, but since the mid-sixties living in Stockholm, is a prominent conductor, professor and music administrator. In 1995 he was elected to the The Royal Swedish Academy of Music and was its president in the period 2006–2012. With roots in the Norwegian band scene, Ingebretsen began his musical career as a clarinetist in Skien School Band and later, with his father as conductor, in Skien Youth Band. During his studies in Oslo, he studied organ with Arild Sandvold and composition with Conrad Baden and wrote his first marches at the age of 18. He then continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, including composition with Karl-Birger Blomdahl and conducting with Prof. Herbert Blomstedt.  For 25 years, Ingebretsen was engaged as conductor at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, where, in addition to conducting the entire classical opera and ballet repertoire, he was also behind quite a few critically acclaimed premieres. For a period, he was also the orchestra director there. In 1996, he was appointed Artistic Director at the then newly built Gothenburg Opera, which soon became considered
one of the leading opera houses in Europe. In 2006, he became Norway's first professor of opera at the KHiO in Oslo, a position he held until 2011. He then worked until 2017 as Artistic Director of the master's program in symphonic orchestral playing and as a professor at the Academy of Music at the University of Gothenburg. In 2009, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Gothenburg's Faculty of Arts. Ingebretsen has also been professor of orchestral conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. Ingebretsen has mainly been active in Sweden, but during the 1970s, 1980s and into the 1990s he was also a frequently used conductor in the Norwegian music scene, with assignments in all symphony orchestras, NRK radio and TV and the Norwegian Opera.
